Our Mission

Rocky Coast Rabbit Rescue & Sanctuary, founded in 2024 by Rachel and Kaili, is dedicated to ensuring the safety, well-being, and proper care of Maine’s domestic rabbits.

Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate rabbits who have been abandoned, neglected, or surrendered, and to place them in safe, loving homes.

We are committed to active trapping of abandoned rabbits, responsible rehoming, and providing educational outreach to help families understand and meet the needs of their rabbit companions.

Through community engagement and advocacy, we strive to build a compassionate, informed network of support for rabbits across Maine and New England.

About Us

    Kaili

    CO-FOUNDER

From dogs and cats to lizards, tortoises, ferrets, and rabbits, Kaili has spent her life rescuing and rehabilitating animals of every shape and size.

A lifelong animal advocate, she has volunteered with multiple rescue organizations, always gravitating toward the small, overlooked creatures that often go unnoticed.

Founding Rocky Coast Rabbit Rescue allowed Kaili to fulfill her lifelong dream of creating a sanctuary and support system for animals in need — particularly rabbits, who are so often misunderstood and mistreated.

    Rachel

    CO-FOUNDER

Rachel’s passion for rescue work began through her involvement with local organizations, where she recognized a critical gap in awareness and resources for domestic rabbits.

She witnessed firsthand the neglect and abandonment these animals face and felt called to take action.

With her experience, compassion, and determination, Rachel co-founded Rocky Coast Rabbit Rescue to provide safety, advocacy, and a brighter future for rabbits throughout Maine and New England.

    Hiccup & Munch

    SANCTUARY BUNS

Say hello to Hiccup and Munch, the official faces of Rocky Coast Rabbit Rescue (yep, that’s them on our logo!).

Their journey to us was anything but easy. Both were left outside in hutches, neglected and scared.

Hiccup’s story is especially heartbreaking…when he was just a baby, his leg got trapped in a hay feeder and broke. For 2 ½ years, nothing was done to help him, and his leg healed deformed. When he came to us, we knew he deserved a life free of pain, so we made the decision to amputate his leg.

Now? These two are thriving! Hiccup and Munch will spend their days as spoiled sanctuary bunnies — safe, loved, and serving as the adorable inspiration behind everything we do.
